Breaking the Mediocrity Loop: The Stop/Start/Same Step of the Population Health Sycle(tm)
So, we're now at the last step of the Population Health Sycle™ before Sycling again.
We Selected our population.
Then we Surveyed them and learned what data we needed and how to get it.
We Segmented them and discovered the move to “Precision at Scale”.
In the Sell step we discussed this missing link —> it’s a sale.
In the Solve section we found its more than just “Checking the Box”.
We've Scored them across a broad array of measures, and have results.
So this one should be pretty simple. In the Stop/Start/Same step we decide what we're going to do for the next year of our program. We have process and outcome measures from the Score phase. So how do we begin?
1. We need to determine what Survey tools provided useful data, was our Segmentation meaningful, how about our Sell methods, and which interventions worked in our Solve step, and which Scores told us what was going on? Those we want to keep the Same.
2. For the same review that didn't work or are no longer needed? Those we need to Stop.
3. And for the Start step? What did we learn during the prior year? This can include new selection criteria, survey and data gathering methodologies, segmenting strategies or approaches, better ways to sell and get people enrolled and engaged as well as new interventions in the solve stage. Examples might include new clinical guidelines being released, a new behavioral economic strategy for enrollment or engagement, new education programs or outreach, the introduction of an AI based segmentation system and many more
The Stop/Start/Same step needs to be extremely comprehensive. While it seems simple, a deep review is critical to ensure that your program is always getting better. I have seen numerous programs that repeat teh same things every year, producing the same mediocre results.
