1) Some people need help; we have the resources and must help.
2) Science is an iterative process. We will never know all the answers, but the best answers in health come from scientific research ๐ฌ.
3) Not calling out health quackery ๐คฎ is foolish.
4) One of the main reasons we led the world is because we funded ๐ต research ๐ฉโ๐ฌ.
5) Make a statement โก๏ธ Show me the data ๐.
6) You never know what spin-offs will come out of some research-funded discovery. ๐ฉป
7) Yes, our healthcare system is screwed up, but donโt slam research funding because of the outcomes. Fix the system. Moving upstream to prevent illness is a good idea. (Then again, 40 years later and sadly, it is still good luck with that).
8) Until all people have access to quality healthcare ๐ฅ and basic life necessities ๐ฅฌ ๐ ๐๐ง๐ and .... for health. We have to research, understand, fund, and solve those issues.
Phrase of the day from my father, which resonates even more today. He was one of the early physicians and researchers in HIV/AIDS.
After I got blasted around 1999/ 2000 for discussing Dr. John Bartlettโs HIV guidelines from some MDs who said it was โcookbook medicineโ. I asked him if he used them:
โOf course I do, if I didnโt, I would ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ป ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ด๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐?โ
He was wrongโฆ. He might have discovered the known, but would others? Or would they even believe it?

Where do you think our healthcare system fails the most when trying to 'move upstream' to prevent illness?
