A New Approach to Equity

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite,” Nelson Mandela.

The Nodium Health Approach

What if we took a new approach in seeking equity?  Equity has been looked at as an issue for Human Resource departments to solve and they have typically approached it through education, but is this the right framework or area to use in seeking to address equity and the issues of racism, bias, and discrimination in an organization?

It’s a Health Issue.

Studies suggest that racism, spanning systems from medical care to the criminal justice system, adversely affects health in multiple ways. Some minority groups are at increased risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, low birth weight or premature birth, and other serious conditions.

While this particular quote discusses racism, there is clear data that it can be applied to all minority or other groups impacted by a lack of Equity created by racism, bias, and discrimination.

Racism, bias and discrimination, and therefore Equity are Population Health issues, so why don’t we create a Population Health program and use the principles and framework of Population Health to address them?

The Nodium Health Program seeks to go to the root cause of Social Determinants of Health and other health-related issues caused by a lack of equity by offering a population health program designed to identify and reduce the specific features of racism, bias, and hate in individuals and groups thereby creating a more equitable, healthier individual, company and community.

We have developed the framework, tools, and interventions for this program if you’d like to discuss this contact us.
