The History

Fred Goldstein and Nick van Terheyden, MD began working together on helping employers with COVID reopening and operations strategy in February of 2020.  They produced an online course of 23 modules for small employers and began doing educational training programs.

In May they were joined by Luis Saldana, MD, and Doug Goldstein and contracted with St. Edward’s University in Austin to assist with their reopening and operating strategy. The team worked with the various committees and provided insights, reviews of materials, education, strategy, videos, and webinars. One of the team’s early recommendations was pre-return testing of all students, faculty, and staff in order to reduce the incidence of possible infections at the outset of the semester. St Edwards had a successful reopening and operations through the year.

In July of 2020, Fred, Luis and Nick were contacted by and contracted with Baylor University to assist in their reopening and operations. This work focused on four areas

  1. Testing
  2. Screening
  3. Contact Tracing, and
  4. Quarantine and Isolation

Baylor too rapidly established a pre-return testing program and brought their students back to campus.  They had roughly 50% of their classes offered face to face. Baylor had a successful year.

The team of Fred, Nick, and Luis are available to offer these and other employer health services as they continue to work with St. Edward’s and Baylor.
